After her high-risk breast cancer diagnosis in 2017, Maureen turned to her nearly 40-year career as a nurse and nurse educator to help her make informed decisions about her cancer treatment.
A treatment plan was developed that included surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Maureen was referred to the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute, where she met with Dr. Nancy Mendenhall and together they reviewed the research, weighed the risks and benefits and decided on proton therapy.
Now five years out from her diagnosis, Maureen credits the empathy, kindness and support she found at the UF Health Proton Therapy Institute with helping her navigate treatment and embrace each new day with her husband, children and four grandsons.
